Our Training
Beginner Classes
Rapier, Saber, Longsword
You don’t need to ever have held a sword before.
Basics
We teach you the basic cuts, footwork and guards.
We also go through how to move, ways of defending yourself and how to setup attacks and techniques.
Actual Fencing
And obviously you get to actually fence each other, and the other members of the club.
Advanced Classes
Rapier, Saber, Longsword
We go back and forth between techniques from historical texts, taught by Vicky, and olympic fencing tactics adapted for historical weapons by Troels.
1-to-1 Lessons
We also offer 1-to-1 lessons with an instructor for specific weapons.
Program
We have 3 dedicated modules to each weapon currently.
Each are taught in 30 minutes chunks.
Afterwards the hall is open for free fencing — simply pick a partner and a weapon.
There is more than enough time for 8 different fights.
For Experienced Fencers visiting
Do you already do HEMA and just happen to be passing by? Want to train, but don’t see your weapon?
Feel free to send an email to HEMACopenhagen@gmail.com first by clicking the email here and let us know you’re dropping by.
If you have your own HEMA gear and weapons then please bring it. If you have to choose between gear and weapons then bring gear (jacket, mask, pants, gloves).
You can borrow weapons from us.
It’s free to simply visit us.
The last half of each evening is dedicated to free sparring, so you can fence as many people you want then. Use whichever weapons you want. Two sabres vs. Longsword? Sure, why not?
If you’re a die-hard longsworder come by and try fighting rapiers or sabres. Fencing against mis-matched weapons is a great way to deepen your understanding of your own weapon of choice because it forces you to re-consider distance, reach and where your advantages lie.
You don’t have to attend the classes before coming, but it would be nice if you did. It’s always fun for us to meet new fencers.
Fencing Style Study Groups
Dive deeper into a specific style.
We have several people who like to focus in on particular fencing manuals and systems. They spend the later parts of the evenings doing this.
