Women and Queer Beginner Team

June 2026

We invite you to join our new beginner sword-fighting team for women, queer and non-binary people, starting the 2nd of June 2026.

You will learn how to wield different swords, and will learn the basics of Historical European Martial Arts (HEMA).

HEMA as a discipline reconstructs the way swords were used, with all the drama, panache and skill involved. Like you would see in your favorite movie, fantasy or romantasy novel or game, but brought in real life. And of course with practice weapons and protective gear.

Everything we do is grounded in historical research and centuries old manuscripts on the subject matter.

As part of this team you will learn how to stand and move, the way to attack and defend yourself and the way to analyze your opponent and win according to the wisdom of the old masters. And there may be a few dirty tricks sprinkled for flavor.

The Instructor

Viktoria Chudinov is one of the founding members of HEMA Copenhagen. She has been fascinated with swords ever since she could hold up a stick without poking her eye out. She has been involved with HEMA for the past 15 or so years. Her main interest are the Italian rapier traditions of the 1600s, but she has dabbled with most weapons.

The Club

HEMA Copenhagen is a new historical fencing club founded in late 2025. Despite the recent birth date, we pack several decades of fencing experience, spread amongst our members and instructors - both domestically and abroad.

We focus on three weapons: The Rapier, The Longsword and The saber, and a number of historical sources and traditions, covering a period of over 500 years.
